Ling-Fei Kang, oboe; Charles Huang, oboe and English horn; Katie Kennedy, cello; Soohyung Yoo, piano
The Wood Between the Worlds is a quartet scored for oboe, English horn, cello and piano. It is a work comprised of ten movements to be performed without pause.
From the composer, Phil Salathé:
“My piece takes its name from the mysterious forest in The Magician's Nephew, the sixth book in the Chronicles of Narnia series by C. S. Lewis. Though appearing as a tranquil forest, in reality the Wood is a kind of nexus that exists outside normal space and time. The pools of water with which it is filled are each a gateway to a different place, with one for every world in the universe where living creatures still reside.“
The piece was recorded and released by Ravello Records in 2019 on Imaginary Birds, an album of complete works for oboe and English horn by the composer.
