The program features a set of pieces that draw from my time as a student at Iowa and from the years since, including a new reworking of Aulos, written by Iowa composition professor David Gompper; Aggregate^7, written by a former Iowa classmate of mine, Rachel Foote; and Quackgrass, written by Viet Cuong, a colleague of mine in New York. This program also includes Heinz Holliger's Studie über Mehrklänge, a piece I've long admired by the most famous living contemporary oboe specialist, and a new work that I will be writing for the conference.
