American Duos
Allison Gessner, oboe; Emily Kupitz, oboe
This program is taken from a longer recital showcasing some of the excellent, under-represented music of living American composers for some combination of oboe, English horn, and piano.

We considered it crucial to represent composers who are part of marginalized communities or regions. In this program, we have compositions by a woman, an oboist, and a Puerto Rican composer.

The collection of pieces we present are of a programmatic nature. Daughter of the Sea is based on the love sonnets of Pablo Neruda and includes spoken and sung elements. Tres Bocetos Criollos is evocative of scenes from life in Puerto Rico, and Stomp Box creates the effects of a guitarist’s pedalboard. We will alternate in engaging the audience with the backgrounds/stories of these pieces.
