Oboist and composer Laura Adkins has been an advocate of contemporary music for much of her professional career. She was recently awarded a scholarship to attend a composition residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts with her duo partner, pianist and composer Jonathan Hannau, which resulted in a full-length, collaboratively-composed concert program. While completing her Master’s in Performance at DePaul University, Laura wrote a thesis and presented an accompanying lecture-recital entitled A Study of Contemporary Oboe Techniques through Selected Repertoire. In 2016, Laura attended the Darmstadt New Music Festival in Germany, which included intensive study with Peter Veale. As a freelance musician currently living in Chicago, Laura has performed with local new music ensembles, including Ensemble Dal Niente, and the Chicago Composers Orchestra. Laura maintained an active private teaching studio for over a decade, and has five years’ experience teaching in orchestral programs.
