Bassoon Fingerings Assistant

 

Position Description

The International Double Reed Society is seeking a Bassoon Fingerings Assistant for the IDRS Fingerings project, a public resource for oboe and bassoon family instruments provided through the IDRS website: https://www.idrs.org/resources/fingerings/

This is a remote, volunteer position and involves helping to edit the bassoon fingerings project.

Term of service: 2 years with possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities/ Position Description and Work Distribution:

  • Work closely with the Bassoon Fingerings Coordinator 
  • Assist the Bassoon Fingerings Coordinator with the creation of bassoon and contrabassoon fingering entries for the IDRS website

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active IDRS Membership 
  • English language fluency
  • Ability to stick to deadlines
  • Understand Google Workspace

2026 Norma Hooks Young Artist International Competition for Oboe Chairperson

 

Position Description

IDRS is seeking applicants for the 2026 and 2028 Norma Hooks Young Artist International Competition for Oboe Chairperson. The position will begin January 2025 until December 2028. Competition Chairs and two Advisory Committee members are chosen by the IDRS Board of Directors.

This is a volunteer position. The 2026 Norma Hooks Young Artist International Competition for Oboe Chairperson will be compensated in the form of complimentary attendance to the full five day registration of the conference.

A travel and an accommodation stipend will be covered by IDRS for the days of the competition during the 2026 and 2028 conferences.

Key Responsibilities/ Position Description and Work Distribution:

  • Select appropriate and diverse repertoire for the competition.
  • Work closely with the Vice President and Competition Advisory Committee in recommending qualified preliminary and final round judges.
  • Coordinate and manage online applications and judging portal on the Acceptd platform.
  • Prepare competition announcements on the IDRS’ Webpage, eNewsletter, and IDRS Social Media platforms in collaboration with the IDRS Communications Coordinator.
  • Organize all aspects of the competition’s final round with the competition chairs, Competition and Conference Coordinators and all relevant parties.
  • Attend and oversee the competition final round during the 2026 and 2028 IDRS conferences.
  • Help promote the competition in all appropriate platforms, including video interviews with finalists.
  • Publish an article reporting on the competition in issue 3 of the Double Reed 2026 & 2028.
  • Adhere to the Competition Chairperson Guidelines in full.
  • Be timely in communication and execution of responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active IDRS Membership at the time of hiring.
  • Professional experience as an oboist with deep knowledge of the oboe repertoire.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer software applications including Microsoft and Google Drive.
  • Ability to stick to deadlines.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented.

IDRS Commissioning Committee Chairperson

 

Position Description

IDRS is seeking applicants for the IDRS Commissioning Committee Chairperson.
The position will begin January 2025 and the term will finish in December 2027. Members of the Commissioning committee are chosen by the IDRS Board of Directors.
This is a volunteer position.
Term of service: 3 years

Key Responsibilities/ Position Description and Work Distribution:

  • Chair the IDRS Commissioning Committee
  • Work closely with the President, Conference Coordinator and Communications Coordinator
  • Prepare the 50 for 50 Commissioning Grants guidelines, application form and related announcements for the website and membership
  • Organize meetings with the Commissioning Committee and chair the review of the grant applications
  • Coordinate the announcement of the grant winners
  • Communicate with the 50 for 50 composers and performers before and after the conference premieres.
  • Adhere to the Commissioning Committee Chairpersons guidelines in full.
  • Publish an article reporting on the commissioning projects in issue 3 of The Double Reed each year.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active IDRS Membership at the time of hiring.
  • Experience in commissioning music
  • Professional experience as an oboist, bassoonist or composer, with a deep knowledge of repertoire for double reed instruments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Proficient in computer software applications including Microsoft and Google Drive.
  • Be timely in communication and execution of responsibilities.
  • Ability to stick to deadlines.
